The people’s choice: An incredible local charity supporting bereaved children
Earlier this year, we gave you the chance to choose Jane Smith’s latest charity partner.
Supporting local people and initiatives, through fundraising, charity visits, and the day-to-day work we do is very important to all of us at Jane Smith FP. We sit at the heart of our community and understand the important role financial security plays for everyone, from clients to local businesses and charities.
For that reason, we’d like to thank all of you who spared time to vote or share our poll. Our request received an amazing response and it highlights just how much we all care about our community and the people we share it with.
In the wake of Covid and an ongoing cost of living crisis, small charities have enormous barriers to overcome and Harry’s Rainbow is no exception. They need support now more than ever and we’re delighted and proud to be able to do our bit to help.
There are plenty of ways you can support this amazing cause too, beginning with our client referral incentive.
Be a part of our new client referral incentive and support Harry’s Rainbow
We’re excited to be raising money for Harry’s Rainbow over the next 12 months through our charity referral incentive.
We’ll be making a £50 charitable donation for each person you recommend to us who books an initial meeting. The meeting is free and there’s no requirement for the person you refer to become a client.
Simply put, if you recommend them and we meet them, we’ll make a £50 donation on your behalf.
We work hard to improve the financial situation of all our clients and could be doing this for your family, friends, and co-workers too.
You might consider referring those who are:
- Approaching retirement – Someone who is five years away or more from retirement with a blissful lifestyle in mind, but who needs hassle- and jargon-free help to take financial control.
- Enjoying retirement – Retirement should be relaxing not marred by money worries. We can help your loved one manage their pension budget, giving them peace of mind that they won’t run out of money when they need it most.
- Creating a legacy – With a lifetime of wealth comes the chance to help the next generation. We can make sure the estate of your friend, family member or colleague ends up in the right hands and is protected from Inheritance Tax.
There are many reasons why you might choose to introduce us. We focus on lifestyle rather than finances, helping you make the best decisions for you through our personal service. Now we can do the same for your loved ones.
We hold the gold standards within our field – we’re a Chartered Financial Planning Firm and an Accredited Financial Planning Firm so you can be sure that the people you recommend to us will be in safe hands.
All you need to do is make sure you have their permission before you introduce them (this is very important; please do not recommend someone to us unless you have their permission).
We’ll do the rest! Our team will contact them to arrange an initial discussion, and if we meet, we will donate £50 to Harry’s Rainbow. It’s as simple as that.
Harry’s Rainbow provides much-needed support to bereaved children
The incredible charity, Harry’s Rainbow, is based in Milton Keynes and was founded by Odette Mould MBE, in the wake of the death of her son Harry in 2009, aged just five-and-a-half.
While processing their own loss, Odette and her partner were aware of the need to look after their daughter, Harry’s twin sister Jessica, too. She was also grieving, but finding limited services and support available, Odette set out to provide that support for other families.
Harry’s Rainbow has a mission to “Give bereaved children a brighter tomorrow”, helping them form connections with other children and young people in similar circumstances, relieving loneliness while also promoting healthy living and wellbeing.
Family Liaison Officers, and trained volunteers, work to ensure all age groups are catered for, with support available including:
- Rainbow Groups in key-stages
- Resources, books, and memory boxes
- Trips and activities
- Therapeutic mentoring
- Short breaks at their Rainbow Retreat
- Podcasts
- School support
- Children’s Grief Awareness Week.
The annual cost to provide these services for a child is £650 and with 113 children registered already this year, the charity is facing a huge increase in demand. Each £50 we send via our client referral incentive helps to cover a portion of these costs, helping to make a huge difference to the charity and the support that they provide.
As Odette says, she is “very passionate about helping and supporting children after the death of a significant family member. I was full of such mixed emotions about what I should do for my daughter Jessica after Harry died and had no idea where to turn for help.
“Losing a child is so overwhelming but no matter how strong these feelings of grief were, I just could not let my daughter down. This is what led to Harry’s Rainbow.
“My son Harry was a blessing to me and always will be. I like to talk about him like I do about all my children and I think about him always. He will never be far from me and the love I have for him is what continues to spur me on to help others.”
