Spotlight on ….. Jo

Business Assistant – how did that happen? I previously worked for a Garden Centre in Podington and my time there was coming to an end due to redundancy of my current role. I decided to just put some feelers out with friends and family about keeping their eyes open for local part time positions. Someone said they had seen Jane Smith advertising on social media and that was the end of that!

What drew you to JSFPL? Knowing nothing about the world of financial services, I wanted a role that would challenge me and also liked the idea of working for a smaller company. My background is large corporate organisations (in my life before children), so working with just seven colleagues and a smaller number of clients is certainly different. I also liked the flexibility that JSFPL offered with being a working mum and of course there was a mention of Poppy the lab! Being a dog lover, it’s a dream to work with her every day.

What keeps you smiling at work everyday? The team. Being a newbie, it’s nice to feel you’re going to fit right in once they get to know you more (fingers crossed!)

What are you saving for? We’ve just bought ourselves a new car and now it’s save, save, save for a family holiday to Australia and New Zealand. Hopefully this will happen in 2020 or 2021.

When you’re not at JSFPL, what keeps you busy? My two giggling girlies! Bella 9 and Sophie 7 are full of mischief and fun. I enjoy being with my family and my husband Darren.

If you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be? Concentrate on things that really matter and don’t worry about the stuff you can’t control. Have confidence in yourself, you really can achieve more than you give yourself credit for. Time is precious, waste it wisely!

What goals are you working towards now? After successfully passing my probationary period at JSFPL, I want to continue to learn more about the financial world and become a competent, knowledgeable team member of the JSFPL team. It’s all very exciting.
